Ridgway Area Industrial Development
RIDGWAY AID
Meet the Ridgway AID
Ridgway Area Industrial Development (Ridgway AID) is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to respond to time-sensitive economic development opportunities that require flexibility, speed, and building ownership. Working alongside the Ridgway Industrial Development Corporation, Ridgway AID strives to provide incubator space for manufacturing, commercial or retail, either in our buildings or a conduit for spacing in other locations in the county.
Why Ridgway AID Exists
Ridgway AID was formed to address a gap that traditional land-focused development models could not always fill: the need for ready-to-use buildings and rapid response when businesses face relocation or expansion decisions.
In rural communities, timing matters. When suitable facilities are unavailable, investment and jobs can quickly move elsewhere. Ridgway AID exists to ensure Ridgway, PA can compete when those moments arise.
How Ridgway AID Is Different
While RIDC’s historic focus has centered on land development and long-term planning, Ridgway AID is structured to operate with agility.
Acquires and owns buildings rather than land alone
Responds quickly to urgent business needs
Supports manufacturing and industrial users with real-world facility requirements
Operates with a focused, project-driven approach
This complementary structure allows both organizations to work together without duplicating effort.
What We Do
-
Ridgway AID acquires strategically important buildings when market conditions or timing require swift action. These facilities are stabilized, improved as needed, and positioned for productive use.
-
By providing appropriate space, Ridgway AID helps retain existing employers and supports business expansion that might otherwise leave the community.
-
Reusing existing structures allows Ridgway AID to reduce vacancy, preserve infrastructure investment, and return properties to the tax base when appropriate.
Ridgway AID in Action
In 2017, Ridgway AID was formed in response to a looming business relocation driven by a lack of suitable space in Ridgway. Within 90 days, the organization was created and acquired a manufacturing facility along State Route 948 on Montmorenci from Hoeganaes Corporation.
That building became home to FormFast Powdered Metal Technology and previously served as the first location for APG-MIM, a division of Nichols Portland, LLC. This project demonstrated the value of having a dedicated entity capable of moving quickly to support local industry.
Relationship to RIDC
Ridgway AID operates in close coordination with RIDC. While each organization maintains its own financial structure, their missions are aligned.
Together, RIDC and Ridgway AID:
Coordinate development strategies
Share a commitment to transparency and accountability
Leverage partnerships and grant funding
Focus on long-term economic resilience for Ridgway
This dual-entity approach allows the community to pursue opportunities that require both planning and action.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Ridgway AID is committed to responsible stewardship of assets and public trust. Projects are evaluated based on feasibility, community benefit, and alignment with long-term economic goals.
Ridgway AID works collaboratively with funders, public agencies, and private partners to ensure investments deliver measurable outcomes.
Financial Stewardship & Accountability
Ridgway AID will continue to focus on projects that:
Retain and attract employers
Preserve and create jobs
Activate underutilized facilities
Strengthen Ridgway’s economic foundation
As new opportunities arise, Ridgway AID remains positioned to act decisively in support of the community.
